Snow Day!

Well, we did in fact end up getting 6 inches of snow here in Durham. We were also the lucky few who got only a drizzle of sleet so things were pretty much nice, white, and fluffy. Here are a few pictures to commemorate the rare Durham, NC snow!!

cold weather fare

In preparation for the impending snow fall, I decided to make a hearty lunch today that I could easily heat up this weekend when I knew I was going to be unable to get out to the store. So, I broke out the trusty southern corn bread recipe and made a batch along with black bean soup. I usually make black bean soup with whatever I have in my pantry and today this is the recipe I ended up with.

1 can black beans
1 can rotel tomatoes mexican style with lime and cilantro
1/2 large green bell pepper cut into small chunks
1/2 white onion
1/2 large tomato

Drizzle bottom of pot with olive oil, place peppers and onions in pot and saute until slightly soft
Add can of black beans and can of rotel tomatoes.(do not drain liquid from cans) Add 1/2 to 1 full can of water to pot. Add diced tomatoes. Season lightly with Garlic powder, chili powder, and cumin(use a light hand on the cumin). Also, add salt to taste. Let this simmer together at least an hour before serving. Sometimes I will mix in a cup of shredded monterey jack cheese before serving, and sometimes I add ground italian sausage (brown this before vegetables if adding this). But, if you omit the sausage and the cheese then you end up with a simple, healthy, chocked full of vegi's soup!!

Old Navy

most of you know I LOVE Old Navy. I went down there today just to grab some jeans and realized that if you have an Old Navy card and use it the 28th-31 then they are offering 25% off your whole order. This includes items on the clearance rack! I found two T-shirts for less than $4.00 on the clearance rack and they had a lot of nice pants, etc. Also, you can get this deal shopping online with them if you enter CARD25 when you check out. Thought I would share the love, and hope you find a good deal!!

car news

So, I took the Honda to the transmission shop on Monday. I didn't drop it off until 5pm, and they close at 5:30 so im guessing they wouldn't have started work on it til Tuesday. The bad thing is, I haven't heard anything from the car shop at all and it is now Thursday....hmmm. Im hoping this just means they are working on it and that nothing is wrong with it. I'm going to give them a call tomorrow afternoon to see what is up with it. Hopefully everything is going well. I was really impressed with how nice the people at the transmission store were, and it was recommended to me by AAA so lets hope they get it fixed!

Already tired

This is my "I'm sick and tired of army crap" face :) No idea where Jake is at in his travels back home (no news from him since Saturday) and rumors are traveling around that it might take them even longer to get home than expected. Sigh.

my two favorite shows

okay, so im a little behind on holly wood and have no idea who is married to who or who arrived with whom at the golden globes. So, I was surprised to come across this bit of "old news"....two actors from my two all time favorite shows are married! Carrie preston and Michael Emerson,
(This is "Ben" from LOST and "Arlene" from TrueBlood )...anyway, I found this interesting, they are rather cute together.
